Offered to both women and men who are homeless, our 180 Day Transitional Living Program is designed to enable individuals to make healthy and sustainable life changes.
Unemployed individuals live, free of charge, in a BSF housing facility where the following services and support are offered:
12 Step Recovery Program
Drug Awareness Courses
Unemployed individuals participating in the 180 Day Transitional Living Program receive all services free of charge. For those individuals receiving government assistance, BSF opens a trust account, saving all financial assistance until graduation from the program. BSF believes that individuals graduating from the 180 Day Transitional Living program should have the advantage of the savings in order support their transition to independent living. (All money held in trust is returned to all individuals, in full, whether the program is completed or not.)
Transition to Independent Living Support
Upon graduation, BSF offers the Transition to Independent Living Support program. This program is designed to support graduates in their quest for healthy and sustainable independent living. Individuals are offered the following services and support:
90 days shared living accommodations
Additional recovery support through partner agencies where available (ie. Alcoholics Anonymous).
Additional employment preparation support through partner agencies where available.
Individuals seeking employment live rent free for up to 90 days. Upon employment, individuals pay a nominal fee for rent ($20 per day) for the duration of the 90 day program. All participants in the Transition to Independent Living Support program contribute as volunteers to Building A Solid Foundation.
Urgent Shelter Assistance for Women and Single Mothers
Through involvement in the various communities served, BSF recognizes the opportunity to provide urgent and safe shelter for women and single mothers in times of need. BSF provides up to 5 days of emergency shelter.
GED and Employment Preparation Courses
Currently under development in Oakland, BSF offers GED Preparation courses to individuals in the 180 Transitional Living program or the Transition to Independent Living Support program. BSF also offers these courses to the general community, especially to those in close proximity to the Oakland facilities.
